Heal the Boy Docuseries

Ten episode docuseries based on the self-help book "Heal the Boy and the Man Will Appear".
BACK THE PROJECT

Short Summary

Heal the Boy and the Man Will Appear chronicles the true story of Raul Lopez Jr. who was abandoned at the age of 7 , thus spending the next 20 years of his life in and out of prison. After his last prison stay, Raul decided he wanted more out of life, and began the journey of becoming who he is today; a man who has become an authority in the field of Practical Psychology, Strategic Interventions and helping people create lasting positive change.

An extremely non-traditional aspect of this docu-series is the narrative shortfilm each episode will contain. All of the lessons taught in the docu-series come from real-life events that had a significant impact in Raul's life. Recreating these events in a narrative short-film approach will make this docu-series stand out from the crowd.

What We Need & What You Get

This campaign is seeking $350,000, to complete the ten-episode docuseries. In essence, each of the ten episodes is a combination of a documentary-style interview and a short film. In that, we have brought on a film production company that will be writing, shooting, editing and producing each episode. Each episode will feature A-List talent from film and television, in order to bring the story and lessons to life in the most impactful way possible. We have kept costs significantly low, and even at ten episodes, our budget reflects an amount much lower than an independent film on the same level.

The breakdown of the costs are what you would expect to see on a budget for a film. Hiring crew, cast, writing scripts, producing, editing and finally delivering the finished docuseries across multiple platforms.

Besides the perks, the return for anyone who backs this project can't be quantified by normal measures. This docuseries isn't about making a film to bring awareness to something. This docuseries is being created to actually make a difference and provide tools and training for those who watch it. Our goal is that this docuseries would become almost "required reading" for the juvenile and prison systems, and anyone devoted to helping out young men.

The Impact

The goal and purpose of this docu-series is non-traditional. Instead of merely informing viewers of the story that we will lay out, by the end of the series 10th episode, viewers will have practical knowledge and tools that will help them live their own lives to the fullest, overcoming obstacles
and pursuing their true calling in life.

The core of my teaching is to help merge the scientific side of our bodies; our thoughts, our
emotions, our actions mixed with the understanding of God's teaching and word about who we are and how we are, can heal us tremendously. This docuseries will be part narrative and part
teaching. It will come with a curriculum so that after viewing, you can begin to do the real
work of healing. With God as the foundation, understanding the science of your mind and
body will change your life.

Risks & Challenges

The reality is, we live in a world where young men are being incarcerated at alarming rates. Most of, if not all of the time, the number one contributing factor is the lack of a father. Upon being released from prison, I decided I wanted to help young men who were and are in the same situations found myself in, and teach them how to overcome their problems in a way that will help them avoid jail, and learn to process their feelings at the same time.

Having said that, the risk is that young men continue to have little to no teaching or means on how to break the cycle that they are undoubtedly in.

Other Ways You Can Help

We understand that launching a campaign during a pandemic is risky, but we are believing for this project to become fully-funded. So, if you aren't able to give financially, please share this campaign with your friends and family, and help get the word out.

HEAL THE BOY AND THE MAN WILL APPEAR FILMING IN SACRAMENTO

The production company helming the documentay, The California Capital Film Office, is located in Sacramento, California. Ricky Borba, the director, has called Sacramento home for almost two decades. In that time, he has developed relationships with not only local talent and crew, but businesses that will be helpful for the entire production of Heal the Boy.

Those things aside, another one of Sacramento's perks is how diverse and beautiful the surroundings are. Within 10 square miles of Downtown

Sacramento, you will find rural area, suburban areas, areas near lakes and rivers, and of course the beauty and diverse skyline that is Sacramento itself.

Finally, with the opening of the California Capital Film Office (Founded by Ricky Borba, Charles Lago) we have the resources and ability to make obtaining permits, acquire cheaper hotel rates, hiring local cast and crew and working with city entities like the police and fire departments much easier and streamlined than if we were merely just shooting here. The producers of Heal the Boy and the Man Will Appear are full-time residents of Sacramento and have now created the film office with the intent to bring more films to Sacramento, with Heal the Boy being the first.
